(Sold) Trunk #9-Beautiful Jenny Lind from the 1850s (Sold)
The first Jenny Lind we’ve had to offer in quite awhile but it was worth the wait. Arguably, this is the most beautiful trunk design ever and named for one of the world’s most beloved performers, Jenny Lind – The Swedish Nightingale. The original superstar, Jenny was discovered and brought to America by P. T. Barnum in the 1850s to tour. Although she only toured the East Coast, her popularity inspired the naming of a town in California for her. Soon streets and buildings all over, furniture of all kinds, even kitchen devices were blessed with her name. (She was extremely popular in Europe too; she’s the only female mentioned in the Poet’s Corner of Westminster Abbey in London; Hans Christian Anderson wrote songs for her; a polka was written and named for her.) The trunks she used on her tour were quickly copied by makers world-wide and now are the most collectable of all. The lock still works on this one and it comes with a key. The handles are original hardwood, rare for a Jenny Lind. Inside is the original tray and lid compartment which have been completely restored. The outside has many original rosettes. This size makes it very convenient to display anywhere you want. Dimensions: 32″ wide x 16″ deep x 16 tall; 30 lbs.
History: This trunk dates back to the 1850s. We found it Statesville, NC.
