Outside Views 1950s Nostalgic Toy Chest

Since we first found a toy chest with this type artwork it has been an item of discussion around here. It could be George and Martha Washington, Scarlett and Rhett or a couple from South of the Border. Whatever the period, we know the chest itself goes back to the 1950s. It was made in St. Louis by the Hazel Novelty Cabinet Company, same company that made many pirate chests. This is only the third toy chest with this particular artwork we've ever found. It's made of pine with beautiful pine knots. The chest is original except for the addition of a safety lid support that holds the lid in any position you leave it. (So that little fingers are not pinched, if you want to pass it on to a younger generation.). We've cleaned and resealed the wood and left just enough bruises on it to show its age. The artwork needed some slight touch up but is mint now. We cleaned and polished all the original metal buttons. The last step was to coat the entire inside and outside surfaces with an invisible protective clear-coat.
