Oh, if this one
could talk it would give you endless stories of the Chicago
doctor that continued to make house calls right up to his death. How many
children came into this world and how many other souls left it with this
bag nearby? We can't give you the doctor's name but he practiced in
Chicago for many years.
The top of the
line in doctor bags, a Schell Emdee with beautifully supple leather and
solid brass hardware. We traced the patent number and it was
registered in 1942. The bag is made of top grain cowhide that is
still in excellent condition. Everything is original, we've only cleaned
it and treated the leather. The lock is very high quality and is solid
brass. Two large divided compartments with snap-lock covers are inside, one
set on
each side. An adjustable leather strap with several loops for holding bottles and instruments is
in the bottom of the bag. We've left just enough bruises on the bag to show its
age. Schell made the very best doctor bags using very good leather and
solid brass hardware. One design feature in particular that made their bags so long-lasting
- their method of mounting the handles with brass ends connected to brass
rings instead of leather-to-metal as other bag makers did. This
bag would make an excellent gift for a serious collector or a med student
(one we sold went to a doctor in California who is now using it
to make house calls!).
Doctor bags have become a very collectable item and good ones are
becoming very hard to find. Even if you could find a new one of this quality it would cost
you a lot more and it wouldn't have such a background. Just email us at
