This is only the third touring car
trunk we've found in years and it's a really nice one too. Trunks, like nearly
everything else, had to adapt to the coming of the automobile and here's one
of the best examples. This beautiful trunk was probably meant for the back
of a large touring car like a Packard. Many companies, including Packard
themselves made these for all different models of cars. Eventually car
manufacturers made the trunk an integral part of the car and these wonderful
bits of history started to disappear so today they're more difficult to find
than the automobiles. Note the heavy nickel-plated hardware - the
turnbuckles w/locks, the alignment dowel. (Also, please note that some of
the colors that appear in the close-ups of the hardware are
reflections only.) The turnbuckles are stamped with "MI Auto Lock"
and "Milwaukee Stamping Company, Mil, Wisconsin". This trunk is all original, we have replaced nothing, only
cleaned and preserved it. The inside of the trunk is lined with the
original linen material that is in excellent condition. We found this
one near Charlottesville, VA. It dates back to the 1930s.
By the way, you don't
necessarily need a '30s car to enjoy a trunk like this; one car trunk
we sold ended up on the back of a PT Cruiser and the owner was ecstatic. If
you like it as well as we do then call us now, toll-free on 1-877-653-8786
or send us an email to
TreasuredChests@oldtrunks.com before
it gets snatched up. Note: As mentioned on our Bulletin Board, we can convert this trunk into a letter-size file cabinet, no charge. To Order, call 1-336-765-3998 or toll-free (orders only please) 1-877-653-8786 Please note the following trunk number: Item # SK0912 (Car Trunk).
