Only the metal was painted on this dome top, a very drab brown. This one was not nearly as difficult to clean up as it would have been if the wood had been painted. The painted metal is first cleaned of all rust and dirt then any runs in the paint (and there are usually at least a few) are removed since they would show through the new paint.
This one was one of our own trunks; it sold in the first few minutes of its first show. Note the grain of the wood that previously was hidden.
